Pocket Frog

Crochet Pattern by claraisknitting

As the name suggests, the Pocket Frog is a small plushie that fits right into your pocket; it will peek out at the world with a smile while you take it with you on your adventures. C:

This pattern is designed to be completely devoid of sewing, aside from a little embroidery for the face: the frog’s eyes are crocheted in when making the head, while the limbs are crocheted onto the body. Completing the plushie takes about a couple of hours.

Measurements

A Pocket Frog made with a 4 mm hook and DK yarn will have a 10 cm tall body, 5 cm long limbs, and a diameter of about 6 cm; these measurements will obviously vary depending on gauge and amount of stuffing.

You can use any other hook size or yarn weight, just bear in mind how much smaller or bigger the frog will be compared to your pockets. :)

Instructions

We will start by making the frog's eyes; we will then make its body and attach the eyes by crocheting them in with the last rounds of the head.

The body and eyes are worked in the round in a continuous spiral; I suggest placing a stitch marker into the last worked stitch of each round to easily keep track of your work.

Eyes

[Make 2]

6 sc in mr

Fasten off and stuff lightly.

Body and Head

6 sc in mr

Stuff the body.

During the next four rounds we will crochet in the eyes.

In R19 - 20, whenever we need to work a st to crochet in an eye, we will be first inserting the hook into one st on the last worked round of the eye, making sure that the hook enters it from inside the eye and exits on the outside of the eye; we will then insert the hook into the next st on the head, pull up a loop through both sts, and then complete a sc as usual.

In R21 - 22, whenever we need to work a st to crochet in an eye, we will make sure that the hook enters the st on the eye from the outside and exits from the inside of the eye itself. Since we will need to make a dec while crocheting in the eye, we will simply enter 1 st on the eye and two sts on the head, then complete the dec as usual.

Stuff the head.

Fasten off and close, weaving in ends.

Limbs

[Make 4]

Each limb is made by working a combination of ch sts and sl sts to make fingers at the extremities.

Choose the spot on the frog's body where you want to put the limb; attach yarn there and ch 10.

Mark the ch st where you worked the second sl st, we will need it for the next steps.

Fasten off and weave in ends, securing the limb onto the body.

Face

Use a short black yarn thread to embroider pupils on the eyes and a mouth on the frog's face.

Well done! You can now put the Frog into your pocket and enjoy your adventures. 'v'
