Cthulhu

Crochet Pattern by claraisknitting

Ever wanted to hug a cute eldritch god? ...No? Well, in case you change your mind, this pattern will show you how to make your very own Cthulhu plushie! :E

(This emoticon :E is a Cthulhu face!)

This pattern is heavily inspired by RuralRebellion's Cthulhu pattern, which I highly recommend checking out; this was initially intended as a low-sew rework of it, but then I decided to remake it from the start, changing the shape of the wings and tentacles, working the body and head as a single piece, and adjusting the stitch count. Credit for the overall design goes to RuralRebellion, while the wings and all other modifications were made by me.

Making this cute eldritch abomination, as mentioned, only requires a little sewing to attach the arms and the wings; the latter are worked as a single piece. Legs, body, and head are also worked as a single piece, tentacles included. Lastly, you can choose whether to embroider eyes on Cthulhu's face or use safety eyes, buttons, or any other means of decorating it as you like.

Measurements

This plushie can be made with yarn of any kind and thickness; its finished measurements will depend on yarn weight, hook size, gauge, and amount of stuffing.

For example, a Cthulhu worked with a 4 mm hook and Medium/DK yarn will be approximately 17 cm tall, 15 cm wide (wingspan), and 10 cm thick. Using a 6 mm hook and thicker yarn will result in a bigger Cthulhu about 30 cm tall; a 2.5 mm hook and Fine yarn will give you a pocket-size elder god of destruction.

Instructions

Cthulhu's legs, body, and head are worked in the round in a continuous spiral; I suggest placing a stitch marker in the last worked st of each round to easily keep track of your work.

We will start by making the legs, merging them, and keep working around them both to make the body and head; the tentacles will be worked directly while making the head.

First Leg

6 sc in mr

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Second Leg

Repeat the previous steps, but do not fasten off at the end.

Align the 4 sts following the last worked st on the second leg with 4 sts on the first leg.

Merge the legs by working 4 sl sts in the matched sts, then work 14 sc on the second leg; when you get to the other side of the join, continue crocheting on the first leg, making another 14 sc.

You should now have a round of 28 sts around both legs.

Keep working in the round to make the body.

Body

Stuff the legs and body.

Keep working in the round to make the head.

Arms

[Make 2]

6 sc in mr

Stuff and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Wings

The wings are worked in rows as a single piece.

Ch 4, turn

Ch 1 and keep working on top of the wing, on the long, straight side; make about 10 hdc in the spaces between rows, ending with 2 hdc in the top st of the starting chain.

Keep working in the starting chain, on the other side of the first wing.

Repeat the pattern of the first wing, starting from R2 and ending with the 10 hdc on top of the wing.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

Sew the arms to the sides of the body, right under the neck.

Sew the wings on Cthulhu's back, with the straight sides on top.

Embroider eyes on Cthulhu's face, just over the tentacles.

Well done! Thanks for choosing my pattern; feel free to if you need any help! :E
